The artist has given the full amount of his £25k honor winnings to the Music Venues Trust, which functions to protect the United Kingdom's grassroots live music spots.

Fender was given the award on October 16 as his latest record People Watching was declared the best record of the past year.

Fender has opted to hand the money over to the MVT, in acknowledgment of the vital role grassroots venues had in his beginning days.

"As an artist wouldn't be doing what I am doing today if it weren't for all the performances I performed around the North East, and elsewhere, when I was beginning," said the artist. "These locations are legendary, but they are struggling."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these locations have shut down – approximately one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

Over the past year, well-known musicians including Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the Music Venues Trust in its attempts to help venues survive, by applying a modest fee to their admission fees, which benefits smaller concert halls.

Sam Fender also took part, raising more than £100,000 on his live tour to support numerous grassroots venues across Britain.

The money assisted spaces that were facing potential shutdown due to issues caused by water damage, fires and personal losses, as well as permit problems, court cases and noise complaints.

Some locations obtained financial assistance in upgrading facilities and sound and lighting systems that helped musicians and audiences.

"The idea that revenue from shows in big venues helps the independent spots, where it all starts for artists like me, is just logical," the star has stated.

The musician is not the first artist to give his honor prize money to charitable organizations.

In they earned the trophy in the mid-90s for their album their work, vocalist Jarvis Cocker announced that the act would contribute their cash to the charity the charity.

That year, artist Ms Dynamite shared her bounty among a few good causes, including the children's charity and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"I also gave a thousand pounds to the center, to their gymnastics class, because I practiced gymnastics when I was younger and they required new equipment," Ms Dynamite shared with the media.

In recent years, they contributed their winnings to the youth organization that developed their band, as well as other independent music bodies.

And the 1994 recipients M People donated their winnings to a charity for MS after a acquaintance was identified with the condition.

"Receiving the award was sufficient," said singer Small. "The prize was the extra but we could do without the cherry, because we had the main prize. So our winning touched another person's life."

Recently, the Music Venues Trust shared it had protected two local spots in the South East, by placing them under community ownership.

One venue in that area and the second in the city were acquired under the public acquisition initiative, which is backed by Arts Council England and music fans who buy "shares" in the buildings.
