Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Party

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces growing in influence within the urban setting.

Note: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure follow below.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The third episode finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the premier party of characters who will separate from the central cast to embark on their separate journey, separate from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.

This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

Per the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are rare.

Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem unsuited, but the actions of the third episode show why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a intense initial meeting with the antagonists.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose death initiated the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.

Casimir then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in the remote area, beyond the urban center, with Cyd close behind.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each member has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and trusted friend, desires vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and warns that it is a hostile place.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their status as key figures in House Halovar could enable the group reach areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, Teor vowed a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his deliverance and will now go with him wherever.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that rule the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This means them no alternative but to head to Timmony in search of the antagonist.
